This weblog was designed to operate as a stand alone installation initially, and fully integrate into a larger web site in the future. It uses an installation of Movable Type, a CGI application, which is running several custom created modules, and templates, then modified to output php pages. A custom theme was built to match the site style planned for the larger site. Converting the output to php was required to create the desired appearance. An embedded installation of the php link application Slink is used to provide functionality for several of the custom modules used in the left column.
Weblog administration is handled through the native interface, which is accessed separately from the content pages, and requires a log in to enter. This interface is used to add new entries, edit existing entries, and change the application configuration. A separate administrative interface is used to modify Slink entries, and the entire Slink installation is hidden to prevent direct access by visitors. A blogrolling account was also created to incorporate their features into the site.
